Making your way to Charter Walk Shopping Centre
The
Burnley Business Initiative Against
Crime (BBIAC) partnership has been recently
been given a prestigious award which
endorses the town centre as a safer
place for its businesses and shoppers.
After a successful audit of all its
operational activities by the British
Retail Consortiums Action
Against Business Crime (AABC),
which is supported by the Home Office,
BBIAC has recently been presented with
the Safer Business Award in recognition
of the teams work to reduce crime
and anti-social behaviour.
BBIAC is a proactive partnership whose
partners include Lancashire Constabulary,
Charter Walk Shopping Centre, Burnley
Borough Council, Town Centre Partnership,
Community Safety Partnership and business
members from the town centre.
More
than 120 businesses in the town centre
are members of the scheme. It has an
information-sharing agreement with the
police, who provide members with photographs
of prolific offenders who are likely
to be criminally active in the town
centre both during the daytime and evening
economies.
A town-link radio service links Burnley
Borough Councils CCTV team and
the town centre police to all members,
enabling shops and businesses to communicate
with each other and the police if they
spot offenders on their premises.
Marie Parrington, the BBIAC Secretary
& Treasurer, is delighted: This
is a brilliant endorsement of everyone
on the teams hard work to reduce
crime and anti-social behaviour in Burnley
town centre. BBIACs members
are working really well together to
keep our premises safe for all who use
them.
Inspector Viki Haworth, neighbourhood
policing co-ordinator for Burnley says
We have worked hard with our partners
to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour
in Burnley town centre and this
award recognises those efforts. I'm
very proud of our achievement and look
forward to continued commitment to making the
town centre a safer place.
Chris
Gribben, BBIAC Chairman commented,
The Safer Business Award should
provide reassurance that we are committed
to safeguarding the well being of
employees and visitors within Burnley
town centre.
Steve Booth, Regional Crime Manager
for AABC says, This award reflects
the outstanding achievement by BBIAC
who have demonstrated that partnership
working can and does make Burnley
a safer place.
Lisa Durkin, Town Centre Manager said, This award is in recognition of the excellent partnership work that takes place in Burnley town centre and our commitment to achieving high standards for our shoppers, workers and visitors.
